Yesterday, we went to Mount Madonna county park with our friends Neil, Stacy, and Asher. It was a lot of fun and we saw some very beautiful trees and scenery. (Not to mention eating a delicious picnic lunch!) There are pictures here.
I’ve put up Jacob’s August pictures, here.
Lastly, I finally got our pictures [...]

We made amazing time today and now we’re in lovely Barstow, CA. *cough*
Actually, Barstow seems like a pit and we’ll be glad to be back on the road tomorrow morning. But we’re here, we’re safe, and we’ll definitely reach Pebble Beach tomorrow afternoon. This is the last time we’ll have internet access for at least [...]

I think we should officially nickname this vacation the “Jacob slept through it tour of America”.
I truly feel privileged to have been able to make the drive we made today. I knew today (from Boulder CO to Moab UT) would be the scenic day, but I never could have imagined quite how scenic.
We [...]

For the first time during this road trip, Jon and I looked at one another today and said “Yeah, I could live here.” Boulder is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been. We took three walks and a drive today! We just couldn’t stay inside. Unfortunately, I forgot the camera during most [...]

We couldn’t get out of the overgrown truck stop that is Hays Kansas fast enough. Remember the other day, in Indiana, when I said we’d “reached the flat part of the journey”? Hah. Hah hah heh heh hah. That’s pretty funny. I clearly didn’t know the meaning of the word.
There’s Kansas for you, in [...]

…with apologies to Ms. Dorothy. Kansas is dull. They’ve got a lot of sky, and a lot of corn, and not much else.
But that’s okay, because there’s a lot of new blog stuff to talk about. You’ll already have noticed the new look; I’ve switched my blog-generation software. The main Zog welcome page will [...]

Today, we passed out of Indiana, through Illinois, and into Missouri, exchanging Interstate 64 for Interstate 70. What you see above is the arch of St. Louis, which was impressively huge. Today was a good road-trip day. We stopped for lunch at a decent place with another indoor playground for Jacob, we made good time, [...]

People, we have the Midwest. In addition to being in Central time now, we’ve officially reached the Land of the Flat. Our hotel is the tallest thing around for miles despite Evansville being a fairly large city.
Today was only okay, on the whole. Bright sides included a very nice mall to walk around in for [...]

Virginia is in full bloom. This is my Saturday morning breakfast, prepared by our extremely talented and generous hosts Moses and Melissa. Aside from the bread, I think everything on that plate is local to Williamsburg and in season. Fresh-egg omelette with local oyster mushrooms that smelled oh my god good, fresh blackberries from the [...]

This morning was perfect. We finished up a fantastic visit with wonderful family, the sun was shining, Jacob was asleep, the highways were clear.
We had a great time at a rest stop mid-morning, too.
Furthermore, Maryland is lush and interesting to drive through, and our business travel finally paid off in that we knew somewhere outside [...]

Today started out very well. We wound up staying in a hotel room in Sturbridge last night, which was actually really nice. We were on our own, Jacob went to sleep easily, and we spent a very nice quiet night together. In the morning, Jacob was in a fabulous mood and had lots of fun [...]

Actually, we were blessed with beautiful weather the whole weekend. All three of us had a wonderful time seeing family and friends, and left feeling very loved. Highlights included a goodbye cookout at Nancy and Bev’s, visiting Great-Grammies, and riding on a four-wheeler.
Actually, I’m lying about that last bit. Jacob actually didn’t like the four-wheeler [...]

Well, that’s that.
We’re gone from 101 Woods Ave, probably forever. Our stuff is in a rig somewhere in America. We have signed a lease on a 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath house in Pebble Beach, CA and are slowly making our way there. Here’s the itinerary, subject to minor changes, for our trek:
August 3-7th: Portland, [...]
