Time after time

Time flows so differently now that we have a child, now that I stay home with him, now that we’re not teenagers. No big events and sweeping changes, anymore. Just the quiet rhythm of domesticity, of new words spoken and bread baked and bumps soothed. Our nights are also quiet now, not filled with friends [...]

In celebration of the imminent closing on the land we’re selling in Maine, we had steak tonight for the first time in a couple of months. Jacob, of course, wanted to know what this INCREDIBLY EXCITING THING was all about, and pined at the door.

I don’t know what exactly he’d do with fiery ashes, [...]

Adventures in babysitting?

Ladies and gentlemen, I ask you: Is there anything in this world more cute than a toddler in feetie pajamas?

I didn’t think so. (Whenever Jacob finds something on the ground, he picks it up, holds it as high in the air as he can manage, and stomps around loudly proclaiming his prowess to the [...]

Link-a-dink!

Yesterday, we went to Mount Madonna county park with our friends Neil, Stacy, and Asher. It was a lot of fun and we saw some very beautiful trees and scenery. (Not to mention eating a delicious picnic lunch!) There are pictures here.
I’ve put up Jacob’s August pictures, here.
Lastly, I finally got our pictures [...]

Addiction

Well. That’s the longest I’ve been without internet since 1996, and I’m not anxious to repeat the experience. The end of the road trip was boring, so I’ll just leave you with this photograph of our afternoon in the Mojave desert:

We’re here! We’re happy, and healthy, and 80% unpacked. Jacob loves to unpack and [...]

Go West, Young Man

We couldn’t get out of the overgrown truck stop that is Hays Kansas fast enough. Remember the other day, in Indiana, when I said we’d “reached the flat part of the journey”? Hah. Hah hah heh heh hah. That’s pretty funny. I clearly didn’t know the meaning of the word.

There’s Kansas for you, in [...]

Fast Rants and Slow Traffic

Today started out very well. We wound up staying in a hotel room in Sturbridge last night, which was actually really nice. We were on our own, Jacob went to sleep easily, and we spent a very nice quiet night together. In the morning, Jacob was in a fabulous mood and had lots of fun [...]

The Rain in Maine…

Actually, we were blessed with beautiful weather the whole weekend. All three of us had a wonderful time seeing family and friends, and left feeling very loved. Highlights included a goodbye cookout at Nancy and Bev’s, visiting Great-Grammies, and riding on a four-wheeler.

Actually, I’m lying about that last bit. Jacob actually didn’t like the four-wheeler [...]

Chocolate Good-byes

Today, we said adieu to our friends in Massachusetts with a sugar-filled party. Nine different desserts delighted, encouraged silliness, and just plain wore out our friends and their families.

Sweet dreams, everyone!
