In celebration of the imminent closing on the land we’re selling in Maine, we had steak tonight for the first time in a couple of months. Jacob, of course, wanted to know what this INCREDIBLY EXCITING THING was all about, and pined at the door. I don’t know what exactly he’d do with fiery ashes, [...]

Bizarre artifact of Mom’s death #37: I pretty much can’t listen to a Jim Croce song without tearing up. I have no idea why. They just all remind me of her in a very sad way. ***** It’s Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish new year. This is a joyous and thoughtful holiday, as we prepare for [...]

Adventures in babysitting?

Ladies and gentlemen, I ask you: Is there anything in this world more cute than a toddler in feetie pajamas? I didn’t think so. (Whenever Jacob finds something on the ground, he picks it up, holds it as high in the air as he can manage, and stomps around loudly proclaiming his prowess to the [...]

This was our last weekend before Jon goes back to work and our idyllic vacation-life ends. It was a really great weekend. Jacob learned how to use chopsticks: We went to a park, and swung on swings, and chased dogs. Today, we saw some friends up in San Jose and had fun shopping. We accomplished [...]

Jacob is officially an omnivore

Jacob’s first two molars popped through the surface today. (Right top and bottom first molars.) Now, his runny nose and fever haven’t subsided and he’s got two painful-looking lumps on the other side of his mouth, so I bet we’re not done with them. But this does make me feel a little better about all [...]

Home is where the baby is.

A huge thank-you to those who contacted me with suggestions for Jacob’s sleep. Tonight, Jon is trying the strategy of reading several more books than usual to Jacob, in the hopes of lulling Jacob to sleep with reading. We’ll see how it works! One of the big downsides to our new house is that it [...]

I finally found the camera battery charger from where I had stashed it while “cleaning” (in the disconnected paper shredder… go, me). Soon, there will be fresh Jacob pictures. Until then… (Eat the cheese. Shake the rattle. Drink the tequila.) After an amazing time on our road trip, and a couple of pretty blissful weeks [...]

Settling in

No room is truly finished, but we’re settling in here. Fewer than a dozen boxes left to unpack, most of the furniture is in the correct spot, some curtains are hung, some of our art on the walls. Progress is slow since Jacob wants to help us, when he’s awake. Still, we’ve gotten enough rooms [...]

Link-a-dink!

Yesterday, we went to Mount Madonna county park with our friends Neil, Stacy, and Asher. It was a lot of fun and we saw some very beautiful trees and scenery. (Not to mention eating a delicious picnic lunch!) There are pictures here. I’ve put up Jacob’s August pictures, here. Lastly, I finally got our pictures [...]

Then and now.

To be honest, Jacob’s birthday got a little overshadowed by the move. Since our belongings actually arrived here on his birthday, he didn’t even get the traditional party-with-a-”1″-candle on his big day. (We celebrated with gifts and the candle and cake later, when my father was visiting.) On-time celebration or not, though, we’ve passed an [...]

Addiction

Well. That’s the longest I’ve been without internet since 1996, and I’m not anxious to repeat the experience. The end of the road trip was boring, so I’ll just leave you with this photograph of our afternoon in the Mojave desert: We’re here! We’re happy, and healthy, and 80% unpacked. Jacob loves to unpack and [...]
